New app for Co-med: Digitalization of the Medical Device Rrade

Integration in OXID eShop: Efficient connection via module

The app is designed as a web app and was linked to OXID via a module. A major advantage: existing users of the Oxid store could be transferred to the app without any problems, allowing them to retain their familiar environment. This not only made the changeover easier, but also enabled seamless use without the need for new customer access.

In addition to the intuitive operation, the app also significantly improves the ordering processes for the practice. Thanks to the direct connection to OXID, orders are automatically synchronized, which speeds up order processing. Product prices, availability and individual customer conditions are updated in real time so that users always have access to the latest data.

Another key benefit is the optimized data management. All master data is maintained centrally, so that changes in the OXID system are applied directly in the app. This reduces the administrative effort and ensures that all relevant information is always up to date.

In the course of the project, the OXID module was standardized to make it usable for other customers. This makes it easier to integrate the solution into other companies and significantly reduces the development effort for future projects.

A special feature for the user: the integrated barcode scanner

A key feature of the app is the integrated barcode scanner, which uses the cell phone camera directly. This allows users to capture different types of codes, including barcodes and QR codes. This makes it easier to scan products quickly without having to enter them manually and ensures more efficient order processing.

Users can capture different types of codes, including:

  • EAN
  • QR codes
  • Data-Matrix
  • PZN
  • GTIN

Users can, for example:

  • Reorder products by simply scanning them with their cell phone camera
  • Identify items and link them to internal or external information
  • Record stock checks or goods receipts more efficiently

From the idea to the standard solution: the development of the module

The challenge was to combine various components into a consistent, functional solution. This was achieved with the app.

The e-portal itself is distributed by Dixeno, a long-standing partner. Thanks to the close cooperation, the technical processes could be integrated and optimized in the best possible way.

Project period and challenges

First of all: all challenges were overcome together. The project ran from January 2024 to December 2024 and involved the following challenges:

  • Communication and coordination: The collaboration with several partners (Co-med, ESYON, InCom Gesellschaft für EDV-Systeme mbh and Dixeno) required precise coordination.
  • Individual barcode search: Since different search systems exist, the code recognition had to be flexibly adaptable.
  • Optimization of QR code processing: The app needed to be able to optimally process both internal and external links.
  • Regulatory requirements: In addition to GDPR compliance, the Apple Transparency Framework was also a key requirement for app store approval.

Conclusion: A future-proof app with added value for the medical device trade

The close collaboration between ESYON, Co-med and the other project partners has resulted in a powerful and future-proof app. By standardizing the OXID module, other customers can now also benefit from this solution.

In addition to optimizing existing processes, the app offers a function that creates real added value in practice with its barcode scanner integrated directly into the cell phone camera. The project thus sets new standards in the digitalization of retail processes and underlines the importance of mobile applications in e-commerce.
